The honest warning

A rolling release that has not been updated for six months is not a stable system, it is a difficult one: partial upgrades are unsupported, and a long gap between updates is where the manual interventions accumulate. Arch is excellent on a machine somebody looks after and a liability on one nobody does.

That is why it is offered on virtual machines and not on bare metal here. Snapshots are in the panel; take one before a large pacman -Syu and the risk becomes an inconvenience.

When it is genuinely right

A workstation-shaped machine in the cloud. A build box that needs current toolchains. Anything where you are the operator, you will be looking at it weekly anyway, and waiting two years for a package version is the actual problem you are solving.

Questions people actually ask

Is Arch stable enough for a server?

For a server you actively maintain, yes, and plenty of people run it that way. For one you deploy and forget, no, and nobody serious claims otherwise.

Do you provide the AUR?

It is a user repository, not something a host provides, and it is available to you exactly as on any Arch machine. You have full root.

What it is genuinely good at

The newest packaged version of everything, without waiting two years or building it yourself.
The AUR, which has effectively everything, and packaging that is trivial to read and audit.
Documentation that is the reference for Linux generally, not just for Arch.

Choose a different one if

Debian The machine has to keep working while nobody is looking at it. This is most servers.
Fedora You want current software with an actual release to pin to and a support window that exists.
