Linode, comparedWell-run for twenty years, and now part of something much larger.

Linode earned its reputation with good support and honest pricing over two decades. The Akamai acquisition changed the compliance surface more than it changed the product, and that is the part relevant here.

What they are genuinely good at

  • Support that answers, from people who understand the platform — historically its best feature.
  • Straightforward pricing and a stable, predictable platform with a long track record.
  • Akamai’s network behind it, which is a real engineering upgrade.

What we publish that most do not

A larger parent is a larger compliance function

This is not a criticism. A company of Akamai’s size has obligations and legal exposure that make a fast, conservative response to complaints the only rational policy. A smaller operator can afford to answer a notice with a letter; a large one usually cannot.

That trade is the reason this estate is structured the way it is. Eight small companies, one per jurisdiction, each small enough that a complaint can be answered on its merits rather than settled for speed.

United States, again

The DMCA applies directly, notice and takedown is the process, and no policy changes that. Every region here is outside US jurisdiction; that is the difference in one sentence.

Support

Theirs is better resourced. Ours reaches an engineer rather than a queue, which is a different kind of good and worth being honest about rather than claiming to beat a company with a support organisation.

Questions people actually ask

Did the Akamai acquisition change the terms?

The relevant point is not a clause, it is that the party answering a complaint is now much larger and has more to lose. That shifts the default towards removal.

Can I move a Linode here?

Yes, and an engineer does it at no charge, including the sync window and the DNS cutover — see migration.

Buy theirs instead if

  • You want a large, stable US provider with support that answers properly.
  • Akamai’s edge and security products are useful to you in the same account.
  • The content is ordinary and being an identified customer is not a problem.

That list is here because a comparison that cannot name a reason to buy the other one is an advertisement. If any of those three is you, they are the better buy and this page has done its job.
