How it gets there
No ticket, no identity documents, no call. The image list is on the configurator itself, one field below the plan, and a virtual machine is live in about fifty-five seconds.
One TrueNAS machine is storage. Two, in different jurisdictions, replicating to each other, is the architecture the resilience article argues for: off-site, versioned, on hardware you control, held by a different company in a different country.
ZFS replication is incremental and snapshot-based, so the second copy is append-only in the way that matters — something that destroys the source does not destroy the history on the target.
Storage is the one product where the hardware specification is the decision. Drive count, controller, whether you want spinning disks for capacity or NVMe for speed, and how much RAM ZFS gets. Custom builds exist for exactly this — a 4U chassis with thirty-six bays behind an HBA is a normal request rather than an exotic one.
If you would rather not run the appliance at all, object and block storage are sold directly, priced per terabyte with no per-gigabyte egress fee.
Yes, and it is a sensible thing to do — two machines in two jurisdictions held by two separate companies. Every region is the same price, so the choice is legal rather than budgetary.
