What KYC is, and why hosts do it
Know Your Customer rules come from financial regulation. A hosting company is not a bank, and in most jurisdictions has no obligation of the kind — but the moment it accepts a card, its payment processor does, and the processor pushes the requirement down the chain. That is the actual mechanism behind most identity checks in hosting: not law, but the card network.

- An email address that you chose, which never has to be your own name.
- A password hash.
- A ledger of amounts paid and services bought.
- The configuration of the services themselves.
- Access logs, destroyed after 24 hours.
And the list of what is never created, which matters more: no identity document, no name, no country, no telephone number, no IP history, no netflow, no record of what is on your disks.
What that actually protects you from

The part most guides leave out
No-KYC is a property of the host's records, not of your traffic. If the payment came from an exchange account opened with a passport, the chain exists — just somewhere else. That is the honest reason how you pay matters at least as much as whether the signup form asked for a name.

Can I really open an account with no name and no document?
Yes — an email address and a password, at signup and at every point afterwards, at any spend level. There is no process here that could act on a name, which is a stronger statement than a promise not to ask.
What happens if a court orders you to identify me?

Is no-KYC hosting legal?
Yes. Hosting is not a regulated financial activity and there is no general obligation to identify customers. The obligation most hosts are passing on comes from their card processor, which is why there are no cards here.
